If you need stock video for any project, its cost can be very expensive. Thankfully there are websites offering high quality video footage for both personal and commercial use free of charge.
Coming up I will count down the top 5 websites I have used from where you can download free stock video footage sites for just any project including those created for youtube. And I will show you additional websites not making our top 5 with free stock footage that are worth checking out. So let’s get started…

1. Dareful
Starting off our countdown at number 5 is “Dareful”. You will find here the largest amount of free footage.But what you do find is all in stunning 4K resolution. All the clips found on here were shot by Joel Holland. He is the founder of another website for creatives called “Storyblocks”. While that other website is not free. All the clips it contributes to dareful are completely free of charge.
When you select the video to preview.You get additional information including duration, size of the file, resolution and the license which in this case is a creative commons international 4.0 license.
The license agreements can vary depending on the site on all websites. I advice that you read the license agreement prior to downloading any files.I will quickly summarize the license detail from each of the sites mentioned in our top 5.
Moreover, you can use all footages on dareful for any type of projects. But you will have to provide attribution giving proper credit to the clips creator. Also you will have to provide a link to the license and indicate if you made any changes.

2. Vedivo
Now at number 4 is “Videvo” which offers thousands of free and premium stock videos created by their community members. Most of the videos are in HD with a small selection also in 4K. If you want to see free stock footage, at the top, click on video. On this page go to filters and select only free clips.
Other filter options include sort, resolution and license. Do note that video you choose could be any of the 3 license types when you select a clip. It will show you the licensing and usage information.You can use some videos for all projects but you will have to give credits.
Whereas for some videos, in addition to giving credit, you can not use this footage for commercial or promotional projects. If you select learn more, you can get additional information about the various license types offered on Vedivo.

3. Videezy
Coming in at number 3 is “Videezy”. They offer a large collection of high quality videos in both HD and 4K resolution that are royalty free for personal and commercial use.
When searching on their website,, you can filter the results along left by the file type, license type, resolution and format. Most videos, you find here will be in an mp4 format. In addition to the free clips, you will also see results shown with the green tag marked pro. These are premium clips that require paying with credits. Below the preview of the video you selected, it will have link to the license information. And show you the file format, resolution and the frames per second (fps).
The Videezy standard license is the most common type of license for the free footage. It let’s you use any clip for personal and commercial use. But you must give attribution in one of the two ways listed. Moreover, you can purchase the footage to remove the attribution requirement.
4. Pixabay
In the runner up spot coming in at number 2 is “Pixabay”. This website is one of my favorite site for free stock photos. And it is also great when looking for free stock footage with thousands of videos to choose from. All videos on Pixabay are submitted by its community users. Most are in HD with a decent selection, also in 4K resolution. To right of the preview, it displays the file format, resolution, length of video along with the additional information. When you go to download any file, you get to choose the resolution for that video.
All images and videoson this website carry the Pixabay License. There are not many restrictions, you can use any file for both personal and commercial use and modify it too. While I do recommend giving credit to the owner, attribution is not required.

Mixkit
Mixkit offers a curated collection of free videos in a variety of categories releasing 10 free videos each week. Their license lets you use their content on any project with no attribution required.
Vidsplay
It is another fantastic resource where the new content is added each week. You can use all videos for personal and commercial projects. But you will have to give credits to Vidsplay when compared to most.
Mazwai
Mazwai offers a limited selection. But whatever is available is of the highest level of quality. The viseos can carry one of two license. So you can find the details of the licenses for each clip on the download page.
Life Of Vids
Lifeofvids is another site with a small collection of content to choose from. But it is still worth checking out. The footage is provided by the advertising agency Leroy based in Canada. It’s all available for free with no copyright restrictions.
But redistribution is limited to 10 videos on ther websites.

5. Pexels
In the top spot coming in at number 1, my favorite free stock videos website is “Pexels”. Just like Pixabay mentioned earlier, it is also well known as being a great source for photos.
On pexels, the variety is amazing, the file format is mp4 with content in both HD and 4k resolution. On the download page, you have your chice of resolutions and below the video, if you click on information. You can gather additional information about that video including its resolution, duration, frames per second (fps), and aspect ratio. Moreover, below the video information, is also a quick summary of the license.
Creative commons zero and the pexel license are the two offered. Both allow for use onpersonal and commercial products with no attribution required.
